Open Call for the AIM Startup Competition
The AIM Startup Competition is a cornerstone initiative supporting early-stage innovation within the framework of the Accelerating Investments in Montenegro (AIM) programme, a joint initiative of the Government of Montenegro, through the Montenegro Investment Agency (MIA), and the Delegation of the European Union.
The competition provides a structured pathway from early-stage application to significant international exposure, culminating at the AIM Investment Conference, which will take place from 19–21 October 2026 in Portonovi, Montenegro. Finalists will have the opportunity to present their ventures on the main stage, while the winner will receive the award from the Prime Minister of Montenegro in the presence of representatives of the European Union and international investors.
Who Can Apply?
The call is open to founder-led startups from around the world that are looking to grow and connect with Montenegro’s emerging investment ecosystem. Applicants should generally:
- Have been established less than five years ago and have raised less than EUR 5 million in total funding to date;
- Operate in one of the following sectors: agri-food, energy, information and communication technologies (ICT), transport, or logistics. Startups from related sectors are also encouraged to apply;
- Be founder-led, with a founder actively involved in the day-to-day management of the company, and demonstrate ambition for growth and regional or international expansion.
Competition Categories
The competition is divided into two categories, and applications will be evaluated only within the category to which they belong.
Seed Category
Designed for startups ranging from the pre-funding stage to initial market validation, with little or no previously raised capital (approximately up to EUR 500,000).
Evaluation will focus on:
- Innovation;
- Team quality;
- Problem–solution fit.
Growth Category
Designed for startups that have already achieved measurable market traction and have raised more than EUR 500,000, and up to EUR 5 million in funding.
Evaluation will focus on:
- Market performance and growth;
- Business model sustainability;
- Potential for further expansion and scaling.
What Do Finalists Receive?
Between five and eight shortlisted finalists will pitch their ventures on the main stage before an audience of more than 300 participants, including the Prime Minister, government ministers, representatives of the European Union Delegation, investors, and business leaders.
The winner will receive:
- High-level visibility at the AIM Investment Conference;
- Support in connecting with the AIM network of investors and financial partners;
- Free access to coworking space for two years through the Science and Technology Park of Montenegro (NTP);
- A place in a structured 12-month AIM Accelerator Programme.
Application Process, Deadlines and Submission
Applications consist of a standardized pitch deck, a 2–3 minute video presentation, and an online application form. Submissions will be evaluated by a jury composed of AIM programme institutional partners and representatives of the innovation ecosystem, based on criteria including innovation, team quality, market potential, market performance, and business sustainability.
Applications must be submitted no later than 31 July 2026 at 23:00 CET via the online application form.
